Current Research Projects

Most of my research projects involve observational astronomical interferometry, using the Palomar Testbed Interferometer (PTI), Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI), the GSU CHARA Array, the Navy Prototype Optical Interferometer (NPOI), the Keck Interferometer, and the IR/Optical Telescope Array (IOTA).  Specific topics include (with links to papers):

• Instrument development for space-based and ground-based optical interferometers
• Basic parameters (radius, temperature, mass) of Main Sequence, Giant, and Supergiant Stars
• Stellar rotation and imaging, including direct measures of oblateness of rapidly rotating stars
• Low mass star multiplicity and distances
• Carbon stars
• Young stellar objects
• Cataclysmic variables
• Mira variables
• Spectroscopic binaries
• Active galactic nuclei
• I even moonlight occasionally as a planetary scientist working on asteroids
