Spinning down the Rio de Flag
June 18, 2006
Jeff, Kyle, Mason, Steele, and Sue
Sue's sons joined this ride, a nice spin out the urban trail south of I-40.
This is just south of the sewage plant (we go for only the finest sights on MTB trips here in Flagstaff, after all). Mason, 8, is riding a brand spanking new Specialized Hotrock, with 24" wheels and smart looking orange and black livery. He did a great job with the loose gravelly sections.

This ride has no technical spots at all, but it's in a beautiful area. The trail winds down the Rio de Flag in a shallow canyon, and as you head south, beautiful views emerge. Here's Kyle taking in the sights during a break.

This was a nice out and back, and here we are on the way back, with Mason hammering along and Sue and Steele trying desperately to keep up.

There is a collision of worlds at the intersection of the urban trail and the Arizona Trail where it splits off and goes up a steep hill. A duck is swimming along peacefully, ignoring the rumble of 18-wheelers in the distance.
