VISION First Fringes - Pictures & Video

Images below are clickable.
White light fringes with sids in retro. Four real-time displays on the right: Upper right is camera window, upper left is power spectrum (vertical axis: frequency, horizontal axis: delay). The 'hot' pixel on the PSD is the presence of WL fringes. Lower right is photometry, and lower left is 'waterfall' plot.

Note: Movies you may have to right-click and "Save As" to view. (Or whatever it is you Mac-type-people do for 'right-click'.) If you need a viewer that can to DivX-encoded MKV-contained files, try the free VLC Player.

MOVIE: White light fringes. Sids in retro. Can you see the fringes in the PSD on the upper left? This illustrates the power of the waterfall plot.  (Again, kudos to Matt for hacking this up on request in very short order.)

MOVIE: White light fringes. Illustrative of the fringes moving around when we move the delay lines.  (And kudos to Jim B to hacking up the DL auto-stepper on request, also in short order.)

FDL positions for VISION WL fringes with sids in retro.

MOVIE: The real deal - the actual first sighting of fringes on Elnath. Can you see them? We did!

MOVIE: Better fringes. Starting to come closer to the true ZPD.

MOVIE: Even better fringes. Much closer to the true ZPD.

Starlight fringes on Elnath!
Three very tired but elated observers.

MOVIE: Low-dispersion fringes. Nearly impossible to see on the movie.

And, of course, for pure gratuitous value: MOVIE: Opening the champagne. Astronomers behaving badly.
